It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. Our objective is to build self-confidence through movement while having fun and developing muscular strength, flexibility, and balance. The benefits and skill sets of Acro are great for aspiring dancers, cheerleaders, and students seeking fun, physical activity, and wellness.
More about Acro and what the age groups will be studying:
Minis (Ages 5-7): Preparatory stretches, body positions, jumps, leaps, rolls, and the beginning principals of Acro dance and its terminology. Once establishment of the preparatory skills listed are mastered, an introduction of cartwheels, cartwheel variations, handstands, limbers, and more challenging balance and strength holds will be incorporated with the goal of progressing towards Acro dance combinations.
Minis (Ages 5-7) Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop introduces dance students to the various aspects of hip-hop: popping, locking, stepping, breaking, house, and other styles that have emerged from the communities of America. The movement is technically tied to complex and often driving rhythms. The origins of hip-hop will also be explored through the use of steps and combinations.
Youth (Ages 8-12) & Teen (Ages 13+) Classes
Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all dance movement and is the most important and most highly recommended subject to be studied. It is a classical dance characterized by grace, poise, and precision of movement. Students are taught the importance of proper technique, including body placement, terminology, and flexibility. Classes consist of structured barre work, center technique, and across the floor exercises. Our faculty emphasizes correct placement and alignment while providing an enjoyable age and level appropriate learning environment during each class session.
Pointe
Pointe (en pointe) means "on the tips of the toes" and is a part of classical ballet technique made possible by specially reinforced shoes called pointe shoes. It takes considerable strength in the feet, ankles, legs, knees, and abdomen to dance en pointe. Students must reach a stage of mature physical development before attempting pointe work as bones and growth plates in the feet must be fully hardened and developed. Dancers who are interested in eventually progressing onto pointe shoes should begin a conversation with the Directors. Years of ballet training are recommended and at least one full year of Ballet at the Teen level is required as a prerequisite. Synergy Dance Co. requires their students to receive a physician's exam and provide a doctor's note prior to their advancing onto pointe shoes. Our goal is to have healthy and happy students who can enjoy the enrichment of dance for a lifetime.
Jazz
Jazz is a stylized form of dance that combines rock, pop, theatrical, lyrical, and modern to produce its own style and excitement. Jazz technique explores body placement, balance, isolations, leaps, turns, and dance combinations.
Pom
Pom is a jazz based dance class focused on sharp, placed choreography with an introduction to pro-am cheer dance performance skills. Technique, body placement with an emphasis on arm placement, balance, isolations, leaps, turns, and dance combinations are incorporated into this exciting class. This type of dance can be seen both at college and pro-level competitions and performances. Lyric & Contemporary
This fluid style of dance is a combination of ballet and jazz that challenges dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. It includes intricate, technical, and naturalistic movement. Students will explore technique based on the principles of fall and recovery, contraction and release, and lateral movement. Students discover new ways of using music and sound to intensify the emotion in their movement.
Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop introduces dance students to the various aspects of hip-hop: popping, locking, stepping, breaking, house, and other styles that have emerged from the communities of America. The movement is technically tied to complex and often driving rhythms. The origins of hip-hop will also be explored through the use of steps and combinations.
Tap
Tap is one of the oldest dance forms in the country. It is both visually and audibly stimulating. Students will learn rhythm, timing, technique, floor work, step patterns, and leg/foot coordination. Tap students take a rhythmic journey through classical, theatrical, and present-day styles of music and tap techniques.

Musical Theater
Broadway is full of exciting forms of dance from many eras and from various choreographers. Musical Theater is a form of theater that combines songs, spoken dialogue, body language, acting, and dance. This class is designed for the student with little or no acting experience and consists of studying the basic techniques of acting that are applied to Musical Theater. This is not a voice class but instruction on how to apply acting, dancing, and storytelling to a character. The art of performing is the highlight of this fun, engaging, and entertaining class.
Ensemble Level Program
The Synergy Dance Co. Ensemble level program offers an artistic journey of dance through a broad spectrum of dance and Acro training. The class atmosphere, choreography, and training are catered to dance students who wish to elevate their serious approach and passion for dance by training at a mature and intensive level.
This program is open by invitation to dancers whose readiness and eligibility are observed by the faculty. Interested in the Ensemble level? We invite you to contact the Directors so that we may, together, form a schedule that fits your individual dance education and performance goals.
